About Kaş

Kaş offers you an endless sea, silent, blue, and infinite. In the distance, two fish are playing, on the other side, a diver is venturing into the deeper caves. Kaş, one of the still unspoiled towns along the coastline stretching from Antalya to Fethiye, is a charming harbor town. Positioned where the steep slopes of the Taurus Mountains meet the sea, Kaş is surrounded by peninsulas, islets, and its neighbor, the island of Meis. The white-painted houses sprawl along the shores of the Mediterranean with coves of various sizes on the Çukurbağ Peninsula, and Meis Island is almost a stone's throw away from the tip of the peninsula. Shopping can also be done between these two points, which are so close. Meis, formerly known as Megiste in ancient times, is well-preserved and maintained as a tourism center. It even has a small airport for small planes to land. While there is no airport on the hundreds of kilometers of coastline between Antalya and Dalaman, and tourists are transported to Kaş with a tiring road journey of at least 5 hours, the buzzing plane flights to the tiny Meis Island sadden the hearts of Kaş-based tourism professionals.

Here is the panorama revealed when looking down from above before entering Kaş. The asphalt road that circles the Çukurbağ Peninsula starts from inside Kaş, in front of the harbor. The ancient theater is on the right side of this road. It is in good condition. Northeast of the theater, there is also the city's necropolis. A Doric-style tomb, mostly carved from rock, is intriguing. The entrance wall is adorned with figures of women.

About Kaş

Çukurbağ Peninsula has recently become a residential area with villas and boutique hotels. Known as Habessos in the 2nd millennium BC, Kaş is believed to be built on the ancient port city of Antiphellos in the Middle Lycia Region. Formerly known as Andifli until the early 20th century, the area developed into a prosperous city due to cedar wood and acorn trade from regional forests, as well as sponge diving. The rocky surroundings and magnificent sea make it a popular spot for diving.

Kaş is home to a sarcophagus dating back to the 4th century BC, one of the prominent historical remnants along the main market street. While exploring the town, you'll come across rock tombs, sarcophagi, and tomb monuments known as "mausoleion." The Hellenistic-era theater of Antiphellos in the western part of the city remains well-preserved. Kaş stands out not only for its historical treasures but also for its natural beauty, including Kaputaş Beach on the Kalkan road, offering clear waters for a refreshing dip. Additionally, don't miss the ancient city of Sebeda and Limanağzı Beach, the second harbor of Antiphellos, accessible only by sea and hiking routes. Kekova (Simena), where nature and history converge, can be reached by boat, while Üçağız (Theimioussa) can be reached by land, followed by exploration of the sunken city and beautiful bays with a motorboat or sea kayak.

Among the caves surrounding Kaş, the Blue Cave, Aşırlı Island Sea Cave, Kekova Island Sea Cave, the famous Pigeon Cave with its pigeons, and Hıdrellez Cave with hairless bats and spring remnants are noteworthy. Kaş, becoming increasingly popular as a center for all kinds of nature activities, is one of the most important diving centers in the Mediterranean. Its diverse coastal structure, enriched with ancient wrecks, amphorae, reefs, canyons, and caves, along with a rich marine life and vegetation, deserves this attention. With a clear and turquoise sea, no strong currents, and a significant portion of restricted areas opened for diving, Kaş stands out as a destination worthy of interest.
